New U.S. Ambassador Visits Pittsburgh Before leaving for Slovakia to assume his newly appointed position as U.S. Ambassador, Vincent Obsitnik visited the areas heavily populated with Slovak-Americans - Pittsburgh, Cleveland and New Jersey. The primary purpose of his visits was to meet with the national officers of the Slovak fraternal and cultural organizations headquartered in those areas as well as with representatives of local universities. While in Pittsburgh, he met with officers of the National Slovak Society, Greek Catholic Union of the USA, Carpatho-Rusyn Society, Slovak American Enterprise Fund, Western Pennsylvania Slovak Cultural Association, Slovak Heritage Association of Laurel Highlands, Western Pennsylvania Slovak Radio Hour and the Slovak Foundation. In addition, the ambassador met with representatives of University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie-Mellon University. At the meeting with the various representatives Amb. Obsitnik discussed his plans as ambassador and answered questions from the group. The reception was hosted by Frederick Frank, director of the Slovak American Enterprise Fund and Slovak Honorary Consul Joe Senko. |
